Editorial Board and Governance

The Eurasian Journal of Soil Science (EJSS) operates under the scientific direction of its Editors-in-Chief and Editorial Board. Members are selected on the basis of their expertise in soil science and related disciplines, academic standing, research integrity, international representation and their ability to contribute actively to the journal.

Editors-in-Chief

EJSS is led by four Editors-in-Chief with defined responsibilities:

  • Managing Editor-in-Chief: responsible for overall journal management, editorial policy, the publication schedule and relations with the publisher and indexing services.

  • Scientific Editor-in-Chief: responsible for scientific standards, the journal’s scope and the final scientific evaluation of manuscripts.

  • Technical Editor-in-Chief: responsible for technical and editorial quality, manuscript preparation standards and production.

  • Co-Editor-in-Chief (Peer Review & Research Integrity): responsible for the quality and timeliness of peer review and for coordinating research integrity and publication ethics matters.

The Editors-in-Chief are supported by an Executive Manager, who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the editorial office, the coordination of the submission and review workflow and communication with authors.

Division Editors and Editorial Board

Division Editors handle manuscripts in their fields of expertise. They select reviewers, evaluate review reports and make recommendations to the Editors-in-Chief. Editorial Board members contribute to the journal by reviewing manuscripts, advising on scope and policy and supporting the journal’s international visibility.

The names, affiliations, countries and ORCID identifiers of all editors and Editorial Board members are published on the Editorial Board pages:

Editorial Responsibilities

The Editors-in-Chief and the Editorial Board are responsible for:

  • defining and periodically reviewing the journal’s aims, scope and policies,

  • maintaining high scientific, ethical and editorial standards,

  • selecting qualified reviewers and making independent editorial decisions,

  • managing conflicts of interest and handling all information confidentially,

  • overseeing corrections, retractions and expressions of concern,

  • monitoring the quality and timeliness of peer review and the performance of the journal,

  • applying journal policies consistently to all manuscripts.

Appointment, Term and Review of Membership

Editors and Editorial Board members are appointed by the Editors-in-Chief in consultation with the publisher. Appointments are for a term of three years and may be renewed. The composition of the Editorial Board is reviewed at least once a year. Members who are no longer active are removed, and the published lists are updated promptly.

Membership of the Editorial Board does not imply involvement in the handling of every submission. It also gives no preferential treatment to a member’s own manuscripts.

Conflicts of Interest

Editors do not handle manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest. Such conflicts include authorship, recent collaboration, a supervisory relationship, close institutional ties, family relationships or direct scientific competition. These manuscripts are reassigned to an independent editor.

Manuscripts submitted by an Editor-in-Chief, a Division Editor or an Editorial Board member undergo the same double-blind peer review as all other submissions. The author-editor takes no part in reviewer selection, editorial discussion or the final decision on their own manuscript.

Publisher and Editorial Independence

EJSS is owned and published by the Federation of Eurasian Soil Science Societies (FESSS). The publisher supports the operation of the journal but does not interfere with the selection, peer review or acceptance of individual manuscripts. Editorial decisions are based solely on scientific validity, importance, originality, clarity and relevance to the journal’s scope.
